Frank Vatrano Out at BC

Multiple websites have confirmed our report that BC freshman forward Frank Vatrano would in fact be withdrawing from the school. While I have no details to reveal, Coach York was asked about the situation today by The Heights sports writer Greg Joyce and he replied " Vatrano has withdrawn from the university, per policy at BC, we're not allowed to discuss". Obviously, this is a tough situation for all partires involved but in the end, it is my hope that Vatrano gets everything straightened out and is back on the ice again whether it be in college hockey or some other league.

Anyway, with Vatrano gone, let's take a look at what the lineup is shaking up to be like.

Johnny G- Mullane- Whitney

Hayes- Arnold- Straight

Smith- Sit-Linell

Spiro- Brown- Silk

Here were the power play units-

First Unit-

Johnny G- Mullane- Linell

Whitney-Matheson

Second Unit-

Hayes- Arnold-Straight

Wey- Doherty/Jeke

Yes, Vatrano leaves a little bit of a hole up front but the first two lines will be fine even if the staff decides to drop Steven Whitney down to the second line and move Linell up to first line and drop Straight with Smith and Sit. It's confusing but it's really not that different of a lineup, I kind if like the Smith-Sit-Linell combination because of the speed and the ability that all three guys have in their own end. If there are anymore changes in the next few days, I will be sure to update you as soon as I can.

Until next time,

Catching Up

We are just under two weeks until hockey season and there is some news to report about the Eagles. First of all, Destry Straight missed practice today because of an injury but he should be good to go for the start of the season. As I watch more and more practices, I can see that some guys have really improved their games since last season. Two guys that I think are skating pretty well right now are forwards Danny Linell and Mike Sit. Both guys are going to need to play at a high level for this team this upcoming year and I believe they are both very close to turning it up to that next level. With their speed, both guys have the ability to create some space and make plays so hopefully we see that out of them as the season goes on. Johnny G, Pat Mullane, Steve Whitney, and Bill Arnold have all been skating at that high level they have been at ever since they came to BC so I wouldn't be too worried about them in the early going. In terms of the freshman forwards, I believe that Brendan Silk and Frank Vatrano both still hold spots in the opening night lineup but we will see if anything changes between now and next Friday when New Brunswick comes to town.

On the defensive end, I am becoming more and more confident about this group. I don't make these predictions very often but I have to say, I think Mike Matheson will be the best defenseman in the league by the end of this year. This kid can do it all, he can skate, he can defend (although this needs the most work), he can make plays, and he can fire the puck. Very similar to some Dumoulin guy I remember from a year ago. While some people will have BC's defense as the teams biggest question mark, I wouldn't be surprised to see this unit develop into a very solid one by the end of October.

To be honest, I like this squad. I love the fact that we have four of the top seven forwards returning from last years team and have some great leaders like Mullane and Wey to help with the younger guys. This team isn't as deep as last years or the 2011 squad, but it has seven or eight guys that will be able to play night in and night out and make a big impact. The one big lineup question as of now is who will start at right wing on the first line, once that is decided on by the staff, things will be all set. October 6th can't come soon enough.

BC was selected as the #1 team in the USA Today preseason poll.

Catching Up: The Value of Reconnecting in a Fast-Paced World

In our fast-paced, digitally connected world, the concept of "catching up" may seem quaint or even unnecessary. We live in an age where we are constantly updated with the latest information, from the news to social media, and where our calendars are often packed to the brim with appointments and commitments. However, amidst this hustle and bustle, the act of catching up holds a unique and timeless significance.

This article explores the importance of catching up with others, whether it's friends, family, or colleagues, and delves into the benefits of taking the time to reconnect in a meaningful way. We'll also address frequently asked questions about the art of catching up to help you navigate these social interactions more effectively.

The Art of Catching Up

Catching up, in its essence, is about reconnecting with people we care about. It's an opportunity to bridge the gap created by time and distance, to share experiences, and to reaffirm the bonds that connect us. In our increasingly digital world, where we often communicate through screens, catching up provides a chance for face-to-face interaction or, at the very least, a heartfelt conversation.

Why Catching Up Matters

Strengthening Relationships: Catching up allows us to nurture and strengthen our relationships. Whether it's with friends we haven't seen in years or family members we rarely have the chance to visit, these moments of connection reinforce the ties that bind us.

Sharing Experiences: Life is a journey, and catching up provides an opportunity to share our experiences, both the triumphs and the challenges. Whether it's a new job, a personal milestone, or a recent adventure, these stories help others understand our lives better.

Building Trust: Trust is a foundation of healthy relationships, and catching up plays a role in building and maintaining that trust. By showing interest in someone's life and actively listening to their stories, we demonstrate our care and concern.

Mental and Emotional Support: Sometimes, catching up is an opportunity to provide and receive mental and emotional support. Life's difficulties are easier to bear when we have a network of friends and loved ones to lean on.

Rediscovering Common Ground: Over time, interests and priorities may shift, and catching up allows us to rediscover common ground and shared interests. It can rekindle old passions and forge new connections.

The Benefits of Catching Up

Emotional Well-Being: Meaningful social interactions, like catching up with friends or family, can contribute to our emotional well-being. These connections provide a sense of belonging and reduce feelings of isolation.

Reduced Stress: Taking time to catch up can serve as a break from the stresses of daily life. It provides an opportunity to relax, enjoy the company of others, and temporarily escape the pressures of work or other responsibilities.

Improved Communication Skills: Engaging in conversations with others helps hone our communication skills. It encourages active listening, empathy, and the ability to express ourselves effectively.

Enhanced Perspective: Hearing about the experiences and viewpoints of others broadens our perspective. It can challenge our assumptions and lead to personal growth.

Fostering Gratitude: Catching up often involves reflecting on our lives and expressing gratitude for the people and experiences that enrich them. This practice of gratitude can improve our overall outlook on life.

FAQs About Catching Up

How do I initiate a catch-up session with someone I haven't spoken to in a long time?

Initiating a catch-up can be as simple as sending a friendly message or making a phone call. Express your desire to reconnect, mention a shared memory or interest, and suggest a time to meet or chat.

What if I don't have much in common with the person I'm catching up with?

Finding common ground doesn't require sharing all the same interests. Instead, focus on being a good listener, showing genuine curiosity about their life, and finding topics that both parties can engage with.

Is it okay to schedule catch-up sessions regularly, or should they happen more spontaneously?

The frequency of catch-up sessions depends on your relationship and personal preferences. Some people enjoy regular, scheduled catch-ups, while others prefer more spontaneous interactions. Find what works for you and your friends or loved ones.

What if the person I want to catch up with is always busy or hard to reach?

It's common for people to have busy schedules. Be patient and understanding. Suggest multiple options for meeting or catching up and be flexible with timing.

What if I want to catch up with someone but don't know where to start the conversation?

Begin by asking open-ended questions like, "What have you been up to lately?" or "Tell me about any exciting developments in your life." These questions encourage the other person to share their experiences.

In a world that often feels like it's constantly moving forward, taking the time to catch up with the people who matter to us is an essential practice. It's a reminder that amidst the rapid pace of life, our relationships and connections hold timeless value. Whether it's a coffee date with a friend you haven't seen in years or a heartfelt conversation with a family member, catching up enriches our lives, enhances our well-being, and strengthens the bonds that make life meaningful. Smarter Spending

The NHL preseason was due to start next week but because of the current bickering those games have already been cancelled, with more to come. If you are like me, you budgeted some of your hard-earned bucks in anticipation of the coming season.

Well, since the NHL and the NHLPA can't figure out how to divvy up our cash, screw 'em - let's spend it on something far, far more deserving. For that, I turn this over to a good friend of the blog:
Fellow Hockey Fans:
Far too frequently we read or hear about an American soldier who has recently been “Killed In Action”. Since 2001 over seven thousand men and women have given their lives in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. These incredible sacrifices have left too many American children without a parent.

To honor the fallen and to support their children as they grow, I will be participating in the first Warrior Ride Across America.  This Saturday, September 22, 2012, our team (12 cyclists / 6 support members) will spend eight days cycling across the United States, beginning in San Diego, California, and arriving in New York City - Ground Zero on September 30, 2012.  The ride is over 3,200 miles.

We are raising money for two wonderful charities, The Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation (MC-LEF) and the Travis Manion Foundation (TMF).  MC-LEF has provided over $60 million in scholarship bonds to the children of service members who have been Killed In Action, ensuring that their children can afford to attend college.  MC-LEF also provides for assistance if an unforeseen hardship such as a medical emergency befalls a military family. The Travis Manion Foundation (founded in memory of  Lt. Travis Manion, KIA April 29, 2007)  also provides scholarship funding for the children of fallen service members, in addition to providing financial, medical, and domestic support to those who have been severely wounded in combat.

I humbly ask that you consider making a donation to this cause.  If you are so inclined please donate here: http://911heroesrun.com/warriorride
If you scroll down on the page you will see a section with my name and picture and a donation link.

I thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Joe Burke
Joe has ridden for a cause before, last time earning over $40,000. So far this Warrior Ride has picked up corporate sponsors and collected close to half a million bucks! That's fantastic but it could be better. Your politics, your feelings about the righteousness of the wars, are irrelevant; these are good people riding for children in need. Please help them out.

Principles of Smarter Spending

Budgeting and Planning: The foundation of smarter spending is creating a budget that outlines your income, expenses, savings goals, and debts. A well-thought-out budget helps you track your spending and make informed financial decisions.

Distinguish Between Needs and Wants: One of the key principles of smarter spending is recognizing the difference between essential needs (e.g., housing, groceries, utilities) and discretionary wants (e.g., dining out, entertainment). Prioritize your needs while being mindful of your wants.

Comparison Shopping: Before making a purchase, research and compare prices, quality, and reviews to ensure you get the best value for your money. Utilize online tools, apps, and discounts to find the most cost-effective options.

Avoid Impulse Purchases: Impulse buying can lead to overspending and buyer's remorse. Pause and reflect before making a purchase. Ask yourself if the item aligns with your goals and if you genuinely need it.

Track Your Spending: Regularly review your spending to identify areas where you can cut back or make more cost-effective choices. This awareness helps you stay on track with your financial goals.

Utilize Cash Back and Rewards: Take advantage of cashback rewards, loyalty programs, and credit card rewards to earn money back or receive discounts on your purchases. However, use credit cards responsibly to avoid debt.

Plan for Big Expenses: Anticipate major expenses, such as vacations, home repairs, or education costs, and save for them in advance. This prevents financial strain when these expenses arise.

Invest in Quality: While it may be tempting to buy the cheapest option, investing in quality products or services can be more cost-effective in the long run. Quality items tend to last longer and require fewer replacements or repairs.

Strategies for Smarter Spending

Meal Planning: Reduce food expenses by planning meals, cooking at home, and avoiding excessive dining out. Consider meal prep to save time and money.

Discounts and Coupons: Use coupons, discounts, and promotional codes when shopping online or in stores. There are various apps and websites that can help you find deals.

Buy Used or Refurbished: For certain items like electronics, furniture, or clothing, consider buying used or refurbished products, which are often significantly cheaper than brand new ones.

Energy Efficiency: Invest in energy-efficient appliances and lighting to reduce utility bills. Simple steps like sealing drafts and adjusting thermostat settings can also save you money.

Cancel Unnecessary Subscriptions: Review your subscription services (e.g., streaming, magazines, gym memberships) and cancel those you don't use or need.

Negotiate Bills: Negotiate with service providers (e.g., cable, internet, insurance) to lower your monthly bills. Loyalty or bundling discounts may be available.

Avoid Lifestyle Inflation: As your income increases, resist the urge to immediately upgrade your lifestyle. Instead, allocate extra funds toward savings, investments, or debt repayment.

Emergency Fund: Build an emergency fund to cover unexpected expenses, so you're less likely to rely on credit cards or loans in emergencies.

A Couple of Preseason Thoughts

I have been able to watch a couple of practices and at this point, the opening night lineup is becoming more and more clear. Destry Straight practiced for the first time today after suffering from back spasms last week. Interestingly, Straight was not put at left wing where he was a season ago. Right now, the staff has Straight lined up at center with freshman Brendan Silk and Frank Vatrano. While he may not be at 100 % right now, I think Straight will be all set to go for the season opener vs New Brunswick in two and a half weeks. I have a couple of observations from the first couple of practices...

1. The Johnny G - Mullane- Linell line is going to be a force in Hockey East this season. Even in practice, you could see that these three were really coming together as a line. It may take a few games for Linell to get used to playing with these guys but when he does, this could be one of the best lines in the league.

2. Forward Brendan Silk appears to have an edge in cracking the starting lineup. In the past few practices, he has been skating at right wing with Destry Straight and Frank Vatrano. This was a little bit of a surprise as I didn't think Silk would earn a top 9 spot but he looks good so far in practice. Hopefully he keeps it up.

3. The defense is not as big a problem as people say it will be. Yes, I see why people will say "BC will be weak on  D" but as it appears to me, this team could have six pretty solid defenseman for the season. I think the starting three with Wey, Matheson, and Alber are among the  top three in the league. Trust me, Matheson will win Rookie of the Year (unless of course the league screws another BC guy). Macleod and Doherty will be fine and I honestly think Travis Jeke has looked pretty solid so far. I am definitely not as worried as I was going into the first practices.

4. This team has a really good nucleus of experienced/skilled players. Skill is something that every team wants and most in Hockey East have. But combine skill and experience and you have one heck of a hockey team. This Eagle squad has some really skilled guys like Mullane, Whitney , and Wey that will help the freshman progress as the season grows older.

Here were the lines-

Johnny G- Mullane- Linell

Hayes- Arnold- Whitney

Vatrano- Straight- Silk

Spiro- Brown/Sit- Smith

Until next time,

A Couple of Preseason Thoughts: Setting the Stage for What's to Come

Preseason in the world of sports is an exciting time. It's a period filled with anticipation, optimism, and a sense of renewal. Teams and fans alike eagerly await the start of a new season, where possibilities seem endless, and dreams of success run high. In this article, we'll delve into a couple of preseason thoughts that set the stage for what's to come. We'll explore the significance of the preseason, share insights on key aspects, and address frequently asked questions to provide a comprehensive understanding of this pivotal period in sports.

The Significance of Preseason

Preseason is the period preceding the official start of a sports season. It serves several crucial purposes, both for teams and players:

Player Evaluation: Preseason provides an opportunity for coaches and team management to evaluate players. It's a time to assess skills, fitness, and readiness for the regular season.

Team Building: It's a period where teams can build camaraderie, develop chemistry among players, and establish a shared vision for the season ahead.

Strategy Development: Coaches use preseason to fine-tune strategies, test lineups, and experiment with different tactics to determine what works best for the team.

Fan Engagement: Preseason games generate excitement among fans and help teams reconnect with their supporters after the offseason.

Injury Recovery: Players recovering from injuries often use the preseason to regain their form and fitness in preparation for the regular season.

Roster Decisions: Preseason games are crucial for determining final roster selections. Players compete for spots on the team, and decisions are made based on performance.

Thought 1: The Return of Fans to Stadiums

One of the most significant preseason thoughts in recent times is the return of fans to stadiums and arenas. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the sporting world, leading to empty stands and eerie silence during games. However, as vaccination efforts progress and safety measures are implemented, fans are gradually being welcomed back to their favorite venues.

The return of fans signifies more than just the presence of cheering spectators; it represents a return to a semblance of normalcy. The energy and enthusiasm that fans bring to the game are invaluable, creating an electric atmosphere that players feed off. The resumption of in-person attendance fosters a sense of community and unity among fans, reinforcing the notion that sports are a shared passion that transcends boundaries.

Key Aspects of Fan Return in Preseason

Health and Safety Measures: Teams and venues have implemented stringent health and safety measures to protect both fans and players. These measures include reduced capacity, mask mandates, and enhanced cleaning protocols.

Vaccination and Testing: Many organizations have encouraged or mandated vaccinations for fans attending games. Additionally, some venues require proof of a negative COVID-19 test for entry.

Hybrid Experiences: Some teams have adopted hybrid approaches, allowing fans to attend games in person or engage virtually through streaming and social media. This ensures that all fans can be a part of the action.

Fan Engagement: Teams are ramping up efforts to engage fans in creative ways, including interactive experiences, behind-the-scenes content, and special events to make the return to stadiums memorable.

Thought 2: The Quest for Championships Begins Anew

Another prevalent preseason thought centers around the aspirations of teams and players. Every preseason marks the beginning of a journey toward a championship. Whether it's a professional league, college sports, or any level of competition, the goal remains the same: to reach the pinnacle of success.

For athletes, preseason signifies the opportunity to lay the foundation for a successful campaign. It's a time of grueling training, conditioning, and preparation, where the focus is on becoming the best version of oneself. Players are driven by the desire to contribute to their team's success and achieve personal milestones.

Coaches, on the other hand, embark on the preseason with strategic plans and visions for the season ahead. They meticulously analyze their rosters, assess player strengths and weaknesses, and devise game plans to maximize their team's chances of winning.

Key Aspects of the Quest for Championships in Preseason

Team Building: Building a cohesive and motivated team is critical to championship aspirations. Preseason often includes team-building activities and exercises to foster unity and trust among players.

Player Development: Preseason provides an opportunity for player development. Athletes work on improving their skills, conditioning, and mental resilience to perform at their best when it matters most.

Injury Prevention: Teams place a strong emphasis on injury prevention during preseason training. Conditioning programs are designed to reduce the risk of injuries that could derail a season.

Strategy Refinement: Coaches use preseason games to test strategies, lineups, and tactical approaches. This experimentation helps identify what works best for the team.

Setting Goals: Setting clear and achievable goals is essential for teams and players. Whether it's winning a championship, earning individual awards, or improving specific aspects of one's game, having goals provides direction and motivation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Preseason in Sports

What is the duration of the preseason in different sports?

The duration of preseason varies by sport. It can last for several weeks in some sports, while in others, it may be shorter. Preseason typically includes training camps, exhibition games, and practice sessions.

Are preseason games as competitive as regular-season games?

Preseason games may be less competitive than regular-season games, as teams use them for experimentation and player evaluation. However, the level of competition can vary from game to game.

The preseason in sports is a period of eager anticipation and renewed hope. It marks the return of fans to stadiums and arenas, signaling a step toward normalcy in a post-pandemic world. It also symbolizes the beginning of a new journey, where teams and players strive to achieve their ultimate goals of championships and success. As fans and athletes come together to embrace the preseason, the stage is set for a season filled with excitement, challenges, and memorable moments that will define the sporting landscape.

No NHL? No Problem

As it seems like midnight is certain to mark the start of yet another NHL lockout, it is time to look at other options for live hockey; gotta feed the addiction somehow and not everyone can take the ice themselves.

Sure it won't be the Blueshirts but that isn't a bad thing - I've found that less emotional involvement often equals more fun (surprise, surprise). There are many other teams out there at various levels of play and they are far more affordable than the NHL. Road trips are always delightful, but for now let's just focus on the tri-state area:

KHL:
Should the lockout stretch into the New Year, you can catch a pair of regular season KHL games at the new Barclay's Center. Dynamo Moscow will face SKA Petersburg, which could mean Ovechkin vs Kovalchuk.

AHL:
Connecticut Whale - The Rangers' AHL affiliate is just a two and a half hour drive from MSG. Brooksie tweeted that Kreider is the only kid off the NYR roster that will be allowed to play there but Future Blue will still be well represented - Bourque, Miller, Thomas, etc. Plus Jeff Beukeboom is now an assistant coach!

Bridgeport Sound Tigers - One of, if not the most convenient franchise to get to from NYC as Metro-North lets you off just blocks from the arena. For Long Islanders, it is an easy ride on the Port Jeff ferry - leave your car in Port Jeff, take the hour-15 cruise and walk two blocks to the arena. And they then hold the last ferry back until just after the game. It is entirely possible that the Isles will reschedule a few of the cats' games for the Mausoleum, as they did during the last lockout. It's not like they will be using that dump for anything else.

Albany Devils - Another two and a half hour drive from MSG, but a team not really that interesting. The only baby Devil worth watching will likely be Keith Kinkaid, the possible heir to Mmmaaaaaaaaaarrrttyy. Like the Isles with the Sound Tigers, the Devils could resched a few of Albany's games for the Rock; they are already set to play four games down in Atlantic City which might make for fun trips.

Also reachable by car are the other upstate franchises: the Binghamton Senators, the Rochester Americans and the Syracuse Crunch, Tampa's new affiliate (meaning most players won the Calder Cup last year in a dominating performance with Norfolk). The Providence Bruins also aren't too far and they will be hosting the AHL All Star Game at the end of January.

ECHL:
Elmira Jackals - If you are road tripping up to Binghamton, Elmira isn't too far away and the Jackals were the ECHL's regular season champs last year. The Craig Rivet-captained squad is an affiliate of the Ducks and Sens and they play in an old, quaint arena that is easy to get tickets to. The Rangers' E affiliate, the Greenville Road Warriors, will be there on October 13th and November 21st.

Trenton Titans - One of the closest teams to NYC at just over an hour drive, but not in the nicest neighborhood (or so I've been told) and the worst team in the E last season. Greenville visits the Flyers' affiliate on October 12th and November 24th. (Thanks to MNYR for the correction.)

FHL:
Danbury Whalers - Sadly the Brooklyn Aviators are no more, leaving Danbury as the easiest Federal League option. It is reachable via Metro-North - a two hour ride - and they have some raucous fans. Interesting note, Mike Rupp played in Danbury during the last lockout, with the UHL's mob-connected Trashers.

NCAA Division I:
The Frozen Apple - There will be hockey at MSG this fall, that is for certain: the annual college game around Thanksgiving. Cornell will face Michigan on November 24th, allowing Ranger fans to watch this summer's second round pick Boo Nieves in maize and blue.

There are many other D-I collegiate options in the tri-state area, including Army, Canisius, Clarkson, Colgate, Niagara, Princeton, Quinnipiac, RIT, RPI, Sacred Heart, St. Lawrence, UConn, Yale, and Union. Wish I could expound upon them further but have yet to go to a single game at any of them - this lockout should afford me the opportunity to change that.

How are you going to get your fix?

Full Lineup Preview

Most of you probably don't remember the lineup predictions I posted about a month ago (I myself don't remember them) so It thought it would be good to once again look at some line combinations we could see on October 6th vs New Brunswick. Here we go.

Johnny G- Pat Mullane- Danny Linell

A real power line. Johnny G is the favorite to be Hockey East preseason player of the year and could very well be a Honey Baker candidate come years end. Mix that in with Pat Mullane who has had a solid three years during his career at BC and Danny Linell, someone who will need to step up but has the potential to be a first line guy. The one concern I would have is Linell on the wing but playing with guys like Johnny G and Mullane will certainly boost his numbers and production.

Destry Straight - Bill Arnold- Steven Whitney

Another line the has the chance to really do some damage on the offensive end for the Eagles. I think Straight will need to adjust a little bit from last season because Chris Kreider isn't coming out of the tunnel this season and he clearly had an impact on Straight's game. Bill Arnold will continue to be the best faceoff man and defensive forward on the team while Whitney will continue to use his heavy offensive arsenal this season. I wouldn't be surprised if he leads the team in goals. This could be a fantastic combination.

Quinn Smith- Kevin Hayes- Frank Vatrano

This line carries two players in Vatrano and Hayes that have very similar playing styles. Both are not particularly fast but have great strength and NHL caliber shots. Just by watching Vatrano for 45 minutes today, I could see that his physical strength is very evident on the ice. The reason I like Smith on this line over Destry Straight is because Quinn adds that speed dimension that Hayes and Vatrano kind of lack. I don't expect Quinn Smith and Frank Vatrano to light it up all year long but to be honest, I really look for Kevin Hayes to be a top three scorer on this team. If he can do that, this line will be real solid.

Cam Spiro- Mike Sit- Patrick Brown

I think Brown and Sit are pretty set in stone to play this season but the left wing on this line is a big question mark. I've always thought that if one were needed at any point last season, Cam Spiro would have been the guy to go in. Hopefully, he gets his shot this year. No, this line is not going to score every game or all that often to be honest but it will comprise of guys that work hard in both ends night in and night out. Peter McMullen will also compete for a spot on this line.

Defense-

Patrick Wey- Teddy Doherty- Keep the veteran with a new, inexperienced freshman.

Patch Alber- Mike Matheson- The best defensive defenseman (Alber) with the highly skilled Matheson.

Isaac Macleod- Travis Jeke- There will be a battle between Jeke and Sullivan for this 6th and final spot. Sullivan, who is injured (but not badly), may be the odd man out.

Power Play Unit One

Forwards- Johnny G, Mullane, Linell

Defenseman- Whitney and Matheson

Power Play Unit Two

Forwards- Straight, Hayes, Arnold

Defenseman- Wey and Alber (Don't know about this last defenseman spot. I could see a guy like Vatrano up there)

Goalie- Milner will start with Billett being the backup.

The Saga Continues

First it was Andrew Glass getting thrown out of school, then the Saponaris, then Charlie Coyle, then Corey Trivino, followed by Max Nicastro and finally this. Boston University hockey continues it's gigantic fall from the championship heights  it achieved just a couple of seasons ago. No, this is not Vermont we are talking about here, we are talking about one of the best programs in this sports history, and one of the great coaches in this sport, going somewhere no one could have ever have imagined. Let's get one thing perfectly clear...no one dislikes BU hockey more than I do and I don't feel sympathetic for that team or that coach very often but come on. Is it really fair for a paper like the Boston Globe to call for Parker's resignation ? Some would say yes but this is not a Joe Paterno type issue here. First of all, the Globe won't even name it's sources in the BU story which landed on their front cover just this week. As a college hockey fan AND as a Boston College hockey fan,  I don't like seeing a legend of our sport getting hammered in the news like this. Do I like Parker ? No, I don't, but do I respect what he has done for college hockey ? Of course. With regards to the party and all of that madness, I don't blame Parker for the actual event because it was just typical BU stupidity out of those players. Did Jack Parker actually know that the party took place and openly lie about it ? I highly doubt it. I don't know Parker but if there is one thing Jack Parker is, it is that he is an honest man who I don't think would tell a lie like that at this point in his career.

Now, would this happen to a Jerry York run program ? Absolutely not. Say what you want about how this can happen anywhere and all that but let's be honest, the kids that come to Boston College to play hockey are not just great players but honest and responsible individuals. I am not saying that the type of players that Parker recruits are not good people but I am saying that he may need to factor in the responsibility part in looking at a future player. Come on Eagle fans ? What would a BC BU rivalry be like without Jack Parker ?

The Eagles will hit the ice for their first (I believe) practice tomorrow. I will have a report on who I think looks good and some of the line combos that will be out there so stay tuned.
