Peepin' Foes: Ottawa Senators

How the hell are the Rangers possibly expected to follow up Monday's tilt against the Devils? Well, we will find out tonight as the Blueshirts get back on the Garden ice to face off against the Ottawa Senators.

Where We Are: Even with the shootout loss, the Rangers are flying, 4-0-3 in the last seven and 8-1-4 in the last 13.

Where They Are: Losers of five straight, with the last four to all Southeast Division teams and the last one a 6-1 thrashing in Atlanta (like what I did there? thrashing? get it? ha!). The losing is of no surprise as the team is filled with Binghamton's best, due to all of the Sens top talent being injured to some degree - Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza, Milan Michalek and Filip Kuba are all out.

Who To Watch For: Our old pal Chris Neil is back from injury and the spineless super pest Jarkko Ruutu is still around, of course. Mike Fisher hasn't scored in the last 14 games but still goes home to a hot woman every night so more power to him. Maybe she will show up at the Garden and light up the place. Alex Kovalev is still the mercurial kid we knew so well - some incredible games, some terrible games. Given what he did against us while with the Habs in the Montreal Massacre, you can never count Kovy out. I always liked Mike Foligno and his kid Nick is turning into a solid player in his own right.

What To Watch For: See how much gas is left in the Ranger tank after Monday. How many goals can the Blueshirts score considering Pascal Leclaire and Brian Elliott both have been horrid of late. Chris Phillips and Anton Volchenkov to hound Marian Gaborik. Neil vs. Avery. Jonathan Cheechoo showing any signs of being the player he once was in San Jose.

What We'll (Hopefully) See: Would love to see Chad DosNueve Johnson get the call and give Hank a rest but I don't think that will happen. Terry Matt Carkner vs Donald Brashear; go Carkner. Vinny Prospal regain his legs and timing to look better than he did in the OT against the Devils. Chris Campoli to look as awful as he always did for the Isles. The Sens to play as ridiculous as they looked goofing around Central Park yesterday. Anyone to clock Jarkko Ruutu.

Also Check Out: Sens Army is closed down but Five For Smiting and Black Aces are still going strong, as is SBN's Silver Seven.

Peepin' Foes: Ottawa Senators - A Closer Look
In the fast-paced world of the NHL, every game counts, and understanding your opponents is crucial. Today, we'll take a closer look at the Ottawa Senators, a team that's seen its fair share of ups and downs in recent years. From their history to their current roster, we'll dive into what makes the Senators tick and what Rangers fans can expect when facing off against this Canadian franchise.

Ottawa Senators: A Brief History
The Ottawa Senators have a storied history dating back to their foundation in 1883. While the current NHL team was established in 1992, the name "Senators" pays homage to the original Ottawa Senators, who were a powerhouse in the early days of hockey and won multiple Stanley Cups.

The modern Senators had their share of success in the late '90s and early 2000s, reaching the playoffs consistently and even making it to the Stanley Cup Final in 2007, ultimately falling short to the Anaheim Ducks. However, the team has faced challenges in recent years, including struggles to make the playoffs and financial difficulties.

The Current Roster
As of the 2023 season, the Ottawa Senators have undergone a rebuilding phase, focusing on developing young talent and building for the future. While they may not be a playoff contender at the moment, they're a team that shouldn't be underestimated. Here are some key players to watch:

1. Brady Tkachuk (Left Wing):
The heart and soul of the Senators, Brady Tkachuk, is a physical forward with a scoring touch. He's a fan favorite in Ottawa and a player the Rangers' defense will need to keep an eye on.

2. Thomas Chabot (Defense):
Chabot is a rising star on the Senators' blue line. He's known for his offensive contributions and his ability to quarterback the power play.

3. Matt Murray (Goaltender):
Matt Murray, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins, is the Senators' starting goaltender. While he's had his share of ups and downs, he's capable of stealing games.

4. Tim Stützle (Center/Left Wing):
Tim Stützle is a young, dynamic forward who's been making waves in the NHL. His speed and skill make him a player to watch.

Strategies Against the Senators
When facing the Senators, there are a few key strategies the Rangers should consider:

1. Exploit Their Defensive Vulnerabilities:
Ottawa has struggled defensively in recent years. The Rangers should look to exploit gaps in their coverage and capitalize on scoring opportunities.

2. Don't Underestimate Their Offense:
While the Senators may not be a top-tier team, they have offensive firepower. The Rangers' defense must stay disciplined and limit high-danger chances.

3. Special Teams Battle:
The Rangers' power play should be ready to capitalize on opportunities, as the Senators' penalty kill hasn't always been reliable.

4. Neutralize Key Players:
Brady Tkachuk and Thomas Chabot are the Senators' go-to players. The Rangers should focus on shutting down their offensive contributions.
